Constitution of the

Chinese Students and Scholars Association at

the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions

 

Created in June 2007

Article I. Name and Purpose

 

Section 1 - Name

The full name of this organization is "the Chinese Students and Scholars Association at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions," also referred to in this document as “JHMI-CSSA”

 

Section 2 - Mission

The mission of this organization will be to serve the needs and best benefits of Chinese community in Hopkins and facilitate social interaction and exchange of ideas between undergraduate students, graduate students, faculties and staffs originally came from People’s Republic of China, and to help them adapt to the American environment.

  

Article II. Membership Requirements

Candidacy for membership will be open to all students, faculty and staff of Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, including School of Medicine, School of Public Health and School of Nursing, at both East Baltimore Campus and Bayview Campus. Students and Scholars from Homewood Campus are welcome to participate all events held by JHMI-CSSA.  There is no annual membership fee. The Chinese Students and Scholars Association will not discriminate on the basis of color, course of study, creed, culture, disabilities, fraternal membership, gender, marital status, national origin, political affiliation, race, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.

 

Article III. Officers and Duties

Section 1 – Executive Board

The executive board will be constituted by:

a)      President

b)      Executive Vice President

c)   Vice Presidents

c)      Treasurer

d)     Secretary in General

 

Section 2 – Temporary Officers

Temporary positions may be created by a majority vote of the executive board.  The board will solicit letters of intent for any open temporary positions, and the officer will be chosen by a majority vote of the executive board.

 

Section 3 – Committees/Functional Groups

Committees or functional groups and chairs may be created by the president as described in Article III, Section 2 of the bylaws.

 

Section 4 – Advisory Board

The advisory Board of CSSA will be constituted by faculty members from the Johns Hopkins University.

 

Section 5 - Duties

The duties of all officers and of the advisors shall be as stated in Article I of the Bylaws.

 

Section 6 - Selection of Officers

a)      Officers shall be selected in the manner described in Article II, Sections 3 of the Bylaws.

 

Article IV. Amendments

 

Section 1

This Constitution may be amended by a 2/3 majority vote of the membership via the CSSA email list.

  

Article V. Bylaws

A set of bylaws will supplement this constitution, describing officer and advisor duties, selection procedures, and meeting procedures.
